Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera  Readers interested in high-quality images of the moon may appreciate the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC), which has been in operation since 2009. This project describes itself as a "system of three cameras mounted on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) that capture high resolution photos of the lunar surface." Visitors may like to begin with LROC's Images section, where they will find dozens of photographs of lunar features such as the Sea of Tranquility and the crater Giordano Bruno, as well as downloadable videos created using LROC images and data.

NASA: Apollo 11 - 50th Anniversary  To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this historic event, NASA has created this website. Upon their arrival, visitors are greeted with an audio clip of the moment that the Apollo 11 mission successfully landed on the lunar surface. From the home page, there are prominent links to collections of both archival and retrospective videos, images, and audio recordings covering multiple Apollo missions, some of which can also be downloaded.

NASA Solar System Exploration NASA's Solar System Exploration website continues to offer a number of engaging ways to learn about planets, dwarf planets, moons, and other celestial bodies that make up our solar system. This sleekly designed and frequently updated website - featuring stunning photographs, detailed diagrams, educational resources, and a number of interesting interactives.

NASA Spaceplace for Kids  This award winning site from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration contains wonderful information, animations and games (also in Spanish).

NASA White Sands Test Facility  Take the "armchair" tour of the White Sands test facility which handles rockets, testing and engineering experiments.

New Horizons  The Pluto-Kuiper Belt Mission will help us understand worlds at the edge of our solar system by making the first reconnaissance of Pluto and Charon. This "double planet" is located at the outer edge of our solar system.

NISE Network: Moon Landing 50th Anniversary  Educators in a variety of settings may want to check out this collection of resources assembled by the National Informal STEM Education (NISE) Network to help commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. In this well-organized collection, readers will find links to five websites created by NASA and the Lunar Planetary Institute specifically for this anniversary, as well as links to nine of NASA's resources with information about the moon and the Apollo program, all of which were produced with general audiences in mind. For elementary educators, there are links to two of NASA's summaries of the Apollo program that were written for younger audiences, one for students in grades 5-8 and another for grades K-4. Additionally, there are numerous hands-on activities related to the moon and space exploration (from the NISE Network, NASA, and other organizations) that could be adapted for classroom use.

Visible Earth NASA's Visible Earth is a searchable directory of images, visualizations, and animations of Earth science-related images being produced by several NASA projects including Terra and SeaWiFS. Images are categorized by location, satellite, and topic, and are also searchable using a full-text search engine. Resources include agriculture, atmosphere, biosphere, cryosphere, human dimensions, hydrosphere, land surface, oceans, radiance or imagery, and solid earth. Accompanying each image are credits, data about the image, the satellite it was taken from, a description of what is shown, and a high-resolution viewable image.
